Propeller safety advocate dies
It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of staunch boating safety advocate, Marion Irving De Cruz. Marion passed away on the afternoon of May 18, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Known to many as “Emilio’s Mom,” Marion was a longtime promoter for boat propeller safety. She founded SPIN (Stop Propeller Injuries Now) following the death of her son Emilio in a 1993 houseboat propeller accident. Marion enlisted and encouraged thousands of people in her efforts calling for boat propeller safety.
Gary Polson, webmaster of Propeller Guard Information Center, wrote a touching tribute to Marion.
