The National Safe Boating Council presented Sea Scout Base Galveston with the 2015 Boating Safety Youth Program Award, sponsored by NSBC Patron Member BoatU.S. Foundation. Sea Scout Base Galveston received $2,500 to enhance its 10-week youth-oriented boating safety program, Reach, and was recognized at the 2015 International Boating & Water Safety Summit at the Mark of Achievement ceremony in Sandestin, Florida, April 1.
The Boating Safety Youth Program Award is designed to recognize organizations and individuals that have created and successfully implemented innovative youth boating education programs targeting safety issues and concerns of national interest.
Sea Scout Base Galveston’s Reach program gives students classroom knowledge followed by hands-on experience with sailing. The program works to instill in its students a love for learning and exploration of the maritime world. Reach offers a variety of year-round boating safety programs dedicated to the development and promotion of the maritime industry.
Reach is easily adaptable for others to develop in their own area, with special emphasis placed on key boating safety issues targeting youth.
