Propeller safety advocate dies

marion-emilio-uscgIt is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of staunch boating safety advocate, Marion Irving De Cruz. Marion passed away on the afternoon of May 18, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Known to many as “Emilio’s Mom,” Marion was a longtime promoter for boat propeller safety. She founded SPIN (Stop Propeller Injuries Now) following the death of her son Emilio in a 1993 houseboat propeller accident. Marion enlisted and encouraged thousands of people in her efforts calling for boat propeller safety.

Marion Irving deCruz was recently recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard for her decades of dedication to boat propeller safety.

Gary Polson, webmaster of Propeller Guard Information Center, wrote a touching tribute to Marion
