SPIN founder recognized by U.S. Coast Guard

marion-uscg-awardMarion Irving deCruz, founder of Stop Propeller Injuries Now, was recently recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard for her decades of dedication to boat propeller safety.

Marion founded SPIN in the wake of the death of her son, Emilio, in a 1993 houseboat propeller accident on Lake Havasu, Arizona. Her tireless work and efforts have made the waters safer for all.

“It was truly our honor to recognize Marion for her dedication, tenacity, and spirit while making boating safer for everyone. We have all been affected by her ‘conversation with Emilio’ and boaters are reaping the benefits of that loving conversation,” said Paul Newman, 11th Coast Guard District Recreational Boating Safety Specialist.

Marion was presented the USCG Public Service Commendation award on February 19, 2016, at Morrow Bay, California.
