The Maryland Natural Resources Police has rolled out a new water safety mascot to replace PFD Panda, who has retired after serving the department for the last 20 years. Splash the Water Safety Dog has taken his place.
Splash, a Chesapeake Bay retriever who is kenneled on Kent Island, will visit schools, fairs and other public events statewide to remind citizens that the best way to remain safe on the water is to wear a life jacket.
